The Memphis Zoo is teaming up with Classic Escapes for a trip to Manitoba, Canada.

The trip is Sunday Nov. 6 through 13.

Poor economy means more questions for BBB

The local Better Business Bureau saw a big jump in questions from consumers last year.

Requests for reviews of businesses were up 31 percent and requests for lists of BBB accredited businesses were up 19 percent.

Complaints were also up in 2010, but lagged behind the other categories. The BBB saw a four percent increase in complaints.

A new plan could end with Memphis and West Memphis being united by a pedestrian bridge spanning the Mississippi River.

“To be able to walk or bike across the Mississippi River will be an amazing experience,” said Memphis Mayor A C Wharton.

Tri-State Defender's Smith named "History Maker in the Making"

The publisher and president of the Tri-State Defender, one of the longest running newspapers for African American news and an essential part of the Civil Rights movement in Memphis, is listed as "100 History Makers in the Making" by The Grio.com.

The site credits Bernal Smith II with rolling out a social media strategy that has helped increase the paper's sales by 15% and "adapting tradition to modern-day technology." And all in less than a year at the helm of the historic paper.

Smith also formed a news partnership with WMC TV 5 which helped enhance news coverage, increase marketing and improve awareness of the Tri-State Defender brand.

Tipton County sheriff reminds people to be safe during Super Bowl weekend

Sheriff J.T. “Pancho” Chumley of the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office in partnership with the Tennesse Governor’s Highway Safety Office is reminding football fans that if your Super Bowl celebration includes alcohol, make the right decision before kickoff and always have a designated driver.  Deputies from Tipton County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting additional traffic enforcement patrols and checkpoints during and after the game to promote traffic safety in Tipton County.

This local message complements that national Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk message supported by the National Football League (NFL), the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), the HERO Campaign and Techniques for Effective Alcohol Management (TEAM) Coalition.
