Title (Max 100 Characters)
Tennessee's State Department of Human Services offices will be open this Saturday in flood-affected counties and officials will be administering short-term food and cash assistance programs for victims.
Low income families that have registered with the Federal Emergency Management Agency could be eligible for one-time cash payments of up to $500.
Food aid is also available to some low-income families not currently enrolled in the food stamp program who have unreimbursed expenses because of property damage from the storms and floods. There are also additional benefits available for families currently receiving food stamps.
Requests for assistance must be made at local DHS offices. The special assistance is only available through May 20 and only in counties that have received a federal disaster declaration.
More information can be found online at www.tn.gov/humanserv or by calling 2-1-1.
