Tipton County Veterans Museum debuts new exhibit

A CALL TO ARMS: TIPTON COUNTY IN WORLD WAR II is now on exhibit at the Tipton County Museum, Veterans Memorial & Nature Center. Approximately 250 artifacts tell the stories of Tipton Countians who served our country during the deadliest conflict in human history. From 1941 through 1945, Tipton Countians could be found all over the globe fighting the Japanese or battling the Germans and Italians. Some of our own were prisoners of war while 57 became war casualties. All were true heroes, answering America's call to arms.

Shiloh to Host Civil War Brass Band Concert

On Thursday, May 23, the Hill College, Hood’s Texas Brigade Brass Band is scheduled to perform at Shiloh National Military Park. The band plays authentic music from the 26th North Carolina Regimental Band, one of the more extensive collections of Civil War band music in existence today, and uses five replica over-the-shoulder instruments to give an authentic presentation and sound of the music. The 26th North Carolina Regimental Band cheered the troops at Gettysburg and Petersburg until they lost their instruments to Union forces near the end of the war.

Molly Ramone to Perform at May 16 Arts in the Alley

Area residents will celebrate the end of the school year at the Henderson Arts Commission's Arts in the Alley on Thursday, May 16. Beginning at 6 p.m., the May AitA will be in Henderson's Downtown Park on Main Street, utilizing the alleys beside it.

Molly Ramone, popular Nashville Celtic rock band with singer/songwriter Mark Harriman and Joe Khoury, will return to Henderson for the May event. Originally from Leiceister, England, Harriman came to America in 1995 when he signed to Gravelsauce Records. Since then he has established himself as an integral part of the Nashville music scene. Khoury plays lead guitar and mandolin and sings backing vocals. He is a prominent session player and music producer in Nashville.

This year's Arts in the Alley events will feature an after-party, beginning around 8 p.m. to offer an open-mic setting for bands to perform, individuals to read poetry, etc. In May, rock band Beyond Blame will perform then.

Local jazz choir breaks into impromptu concert

On Thursday, members of our Jazz Choir traveled to the DSCC Gibson County Center in Trenton to perform at a Donor Scholars Luncheon.  They stopped at a local restaurant afterwards and while waiting for their food, broke out in an impromptu song and some of it was caught on video.  Check it out and feel free to share!!

Arts in the Alley coming up on April 18

 After a blast of wintry weather led to the cancellation of the March Arts in the Alley, the Henderson Arts Commission will kick off its fourth season of Arts in the Alley on Thursday, April 18, at 6 p.m. The 2013 events will have a new home — Henderson's Downtown Park on Main Street, utilizing the park and the the alleys by it.

The April event will spotlight Chester County High School students under the direction of Keith Brown and Ricky Mitchell. The CCHS Jazz Band will perform, and students will perform excerpts from Seussical. The CCHS football coaches will serve as celebrity grillers.

This year's Arts in the Alley events will feature an after-party, beginning around 8 p.m. to offer an open-mic setting for bands to perform, individuals to read poetry, etc. This month Pep Rally Losers, a blues duo from Bowling Green, Ky., will perform at the AitA after party.

Dyersburg State hosting faculty music recital this weekend

Dyersburg State Community College will host its annual Adjunct Faculty Music Recital on Tuesday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Campus Activities Building on the Dyersburg campus.  DSCC faculty members scheduled to perform include Judith Grunet, David Gaines, Sarah Jean, Tony Hendren, Floyd Speck and Tricia Wilburn.  They will be performing a wide variety of musical talent including voice, guitar, piano, percussion, French horn and violin.  The public is invited to attend this event.

Youth Town will host an art exhibit at the DoubleTree Hotel in Jackson, TN on this Friday, April 12, at noon. Artist Debra Tayloe and Youth Town participants will showcase art constructed by materials from the Youth Town Campus.
