DSCC produces Dyer statement

The creative talents of Dyersburg State Community College writers, artists, poets and photographers are being published in the 2012 edition of Dyer Statements: A DSCC Literary Journal.

 

To celebrate the publication of Dyer Statements, the college is hosting a Creative Arts Collection Event: A Showcase of DSCC’s Creativity at the Dyersburg campus on March 13. in the Learning Resource Center, and in the Academic Building Auditorium at the DSCC Jimmy Naifeh Center at Tipton County on Thursday, March 15. Both events take place from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.

 

Those attending will be able to meet the students, faculty and staff members who contributed to the publication. Artwork from the publication will be on digital display, and authors will read their submissions. In addition, there will be a special presentation on the work of author Stephen King.

DSCC benefit concert to fund David C. Kelly Memorial Scholarship

On Friday, February 24, pianist Bill Kelly will tickle the keys of the Dyersburg State Steinway to raise funds for the David C. Kelly Memorial Scholarship fund.

The fund was established by Kelly in memory of his brother David Kelly. David Kelly was a charter member of DSCC’s faculty who began teaching at Dyersburg State in the fall of 1969 as an Associate Professor of English. He assisted with many campus activities, was a Student Government Association sponsor, and was co-editor of The Eagle Eye, a literary anthology produced by the College.

David Kelly was known to many West Tennesseans as a singer. Throughout the years, he performed numerous area social functions. He was also a songwriter—publishing over 1,000 works in his lifetime. Most notably, his song Whirlwind was recorded by country singing star Charlie Rich at Sun Studios in Memphis.

Dynamic Memphis Ensemble, Vincent Tharpe and Kenosis, to perform at Black History Month Gospel Extra

Vincent Tharpe and Kenosis is one of the most talked about young gospel ensembles in Christian music.

The dynamic group will bring their energetic ministry of music to DSCC's annual Gospel Extravaganza on Sunday, February 26.

Several exciting groups and choirs will join in the celebration which will be held at the Tipton County DSCC Jimmy Naifeh Center Academic Building in the auditorium. Michael Davis, Hallelujah 95.7 Radio Morning host will be the Master of Ceremonies. The program will start at 2:30 p.m. and admission is free.

Vincent Tharpe is a prolific and inspirational singer, songwriter, choir director and musician who has appeared on BET's Bobby Jones Gospel, The Word Network and performed on major platforms during the week of the 2012 Stellar Awards.

Performances of Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues to Benefit Planned Parenthood

A cast of Memphis women will perform Eve Ensler's award-winning The Vagina Monologues at Circuit Playhouse on February 9-11th to benefit Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region. All performances begin at 7:30 p.m., but doors open at 6:00 p.m. to give audience members time to mix and mingle with the hosts and Planned Parenthood staff.

This year's performances feature new monologues and nine brand new cast members! It's The Vagina Monologues as you've never seen it--funny, shocking, irreverent, touching, heartbreaking, real and raw.

Tickets are $15 for general admission and $12 for students (you will need to present student ID with your ticket on the night of the show). Tickets can be purchased on line here. Tickets will also be available at the door.

Groups are welcome!
