Kroger offers double fuel points during the summer

Double fuel points will begin Memorial Day weekend and continue through the summer driving season. Kroger customers can earn double fuel points on regular grocery purchases every time they shop Friday, Saturday, and Sunday until September 1st.

A digital coupon is available to customers beginning this week for download through Kroger’s mobile app or online here. The first coupon will be valid for every weekend from May 24th through June 30th, with subsequent monthly coupons appearing later for a limited time. “Based on our customers’ response to last year’s summer fuel promotion, we know how much they appreciate saving money at the pump,” said Joe Bell, Manager of Marketing and Public Affairs for Kroger’s Delta Division.

USDA partners with Tipton producer to expand regional retail beef sales

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack recently announced grant awards to 110 agricultural producers and rural businesses that will help create jobs and develop new products. Claybrook Farm in Tipton County, Tenn. will use one of the grants to expand operations to include retail sales of Angus beef in the tri-state region.

According to Owner Dave Turner, Claybrook Farm has had great wholesale success with its Black Angus beef featured by chefs at restaurants in the Memphis area including Chez Philippe, The Peabody and Andrew Michael Italian Kitchen. "With the help of USDA we are now able to take the next big step and invest more in marketing and hire more people for sales and packaging so we can expand into the regional retail market," he said.

“It’s all within a day trip of Memphis,” is the new tagline regional leaders expect will bring new tourists to enjoy attractions as well as great places to dine in nearby rural communities.

On Thursday, mayors from a four-county region in the Mid-South, along with the Tennessee Tourism Commissioner,  unveiled  the West Tennessee ‘Day Trippin’ Campaign.

The ‘Day Trippin’ is a series of one-minute videos featuring the mayors of their respective communities, encouraging both residents and visitors to enjoy unique attractions off the beaten path "all within a day trip of Memphis.”

The video series, produced by the Memphis Area Association of Governments (MAAG), is part of a five-year, $159,250 endowment grant from the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development (TDTD).

Governor Bill Haslam and Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development Commissioner Karla Davis have awarded $4,485 to Rose Fabricating and Industrial Solutions LLC in Covington.

“If Tennessee is going to become the number one location in the Southeast for high-quality jobs, then we must offer a well-trained workforce to employers,” said Governor Haslam. “This kind of training grant not only helps educate workers, but also provides incentive to employers looking to relocate or expand in Tennessee.”

In their application for the grant, Rose Fabricating and Industrial Solutions LLC stated this grant would enhance employees’ ability to read and work from blueprints.
