Nationwide, the number of returns filed from home computers is up almost six percent over last year at this time.

Beware of phony health inspectors

Beware of phony health inspectors

An important warning from the Tennessee Department of Health.

There are fake health inspectors on the prowl.

The health department says people are posing as health inspectors who call to arrange restaurant inspections and then they demand payment.

Most of the reports are from Asian cuisine restaurants.

The department of health wants all restaurant owners to know they will never demand or collect payment for inspections of restaurants, and regular inspections are unannounced.

The local Better Business Bureau saw a big jump in questions from consumers last year.

Complaints were also up in 2010, but lagged behind the other categories. The BBB saw a four percent increase in complaints.

Tri-State Defender's Smith named "History Maker in the Making"

The publisher and president of the Tri-State Defender, one of the longest running newspapers for African American news and an essential part of the Civil Rights movement in Memphis, is listed as "100 History Makers in the Making" by The Grio.com.

The site credits Bernal Smith II with rolling out a social media strategy that has helped increase the paper's sales by 15% and "adapting tradition to modern-day technology." And all in less than a year at the helm of the historic paper.

Smith also formed a news partnership with WMC TV 5 which helped enhance news coverage, increase marketing and improve awareness of the Tri-State Defender brand.
