Tipton County Sheriff's Office gets new armored vehicle

Tipton County Sheriff's Office gets new armored vehicle

On May 2, the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office was presented with an armored vehicle to be utilized by the SWAT team for high risk arrests and operations.  The vehicle was previously used in the movie “Contraband”.  The vehicle was donated by Don Baskin of Don Baskin Truck Sales, LLC located on Highway 51 in Covington.  “I wanted to provide a tool for the Sheriff’s Office to fight the war against drugs in Tipton County.  It was a long process in locating this type of vehicle which is heavily regulated due to the special features. Armored vehicles are normally destroyed once they are taken out of service.” said Mr. Don Baskin.

High School students produce science fiction film

Two Tipton Rosemark Academy high school students created a science fiction movie in which the school body, teachers, and coaches were the entire cast of the film.

The film took more than year to produce which incorporated the creative design of costumes, sets, camera equipment, special effects, and local area shoots. The storyline is a retro science fiction drama that occurs in current day Rosemark, TN.

The entire film was storyboarded, scripted, directed, filmed, and edited by two students, Seth and Ethan Kaiser.

This film shows the unique creativity, teamwork, and coordination that a few inspired students can do to help motivate an entire high school body to include students, teachers, and coaches to participate in a year-long project outside of formal school hours.

The film premiers at the TRA Performing Arts Center Friday May 10 at 7 p.m. Admission is free.

Munford High Takes Grand Premio Prize at DSCC Spanish Feria

For the 29th consecutive year, DSCC hosted the Spanish Feria on the Dyersburg campus. The Feria, held on March 12th, has become one of the capstone events for area high school students taking Spanish language and culture courses.  Students compete in areas as diverse as crafts, cooking, dictation and poetry. In recent years, the Spanish video production has become a highlight of the competition.

This year approximately 199 students from Bradford, Brighton, Munford, and Ripley High Schools took part in the Feria. They are students in levels I, II, and III of Spanish courses from these schools.

The work of over 75 volunteers from the college and the community is needed to host the event. Planning for the 2013 Feria began in September of 2012. Planning is already underway for the 2014 event.
