Tipton County Sheriff's Office gets new armored vehicle

On May 2, the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office was presented with an armored vehicle to be utilized by the SWAT team for high risk arrests and operations.  The vehicle was previously used in the movie “Contraband”.  The vehicle was donated by Don Baskin of Don Baskin Truck Sales, LLC located on Highway 51 in Covington.  “I wanted to provide a tool for the Sheriff’s Office to fight the war against drugs in Tipton County.  It was a long process in locating this type of vehicle which is heavily regulated due to the special features. Armored vehicles are normally destroyed once they are taken out of service.” said Mr. Don Baskin.

Deputies continue to investigate Tipton County stabbing

On Monday night, May 20 around 6:30PM, Tipton County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to 25 Kelly Circle in Millington, Tipton County regarding a stabbing of multiple people.

Upon arrival deputies confirmed two people were injured.

The injured were Leslie Goodman, 54 and his 15-year-old grandson who both live at the residence.

Leslie Goodman was airlifted from the scene to the MED with multiple stab wounds.

The grandson was transported by ambulance to Baptist Memorial Tipton and later airlifted to the MED with a stab wound to his arm.

Detectives responded to the scene and determined the incident to be a domestic argument resulting in the stabbing.

The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed in the case. Goodman and the 15-year-old remain in the hospital and are in stable condition.

On Tuesday May 14th, Tipton County Sheriff’s Office narcotic investigators executed a search warrant at 7673 Richardson Landing Road in Drummonds.  The warrant was the result of an undercover drug investigation related to drugs being sold from the Drummonds home.

Tipton County sex offender arrested, on probation from Connecticut

On 28 March 2013 around 6:00 AM, Tipton County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to 3712 Meade Lake Road in Millington, Tipton County in an attempt to make contact with the homeowner, Michael Rhodes, 34, regarding a compliance check as a registered sex offender.  Rhodes, who is on probation for a previous child sex abuse conviction from Connecticut, refused to open the door.  Rhodes probation officer was on scene and confirmed his presence inside the residence via the GPS on his electronic monitoring device affixed to his ankle.

'Voices for Victims' kicks off in Tipton County

Tennessee Voices For Victims (TVFV) began out of a collaboration between Verna Wyatt, Sara Kemp, and Valerie Craig, who have decades of experience working on behalf of victims of crime in Tennessee.

The Voices for Victims campaign recently kicked  off in Tipton County.

 Currently, there is no central agency that links victims of crimes together across the state. TVFV will work to create a statewide network of crime survivors with the goal of HEALING:

Reckless driving complaint leads to rape arrest

The Tipton County Sheriff's Office arrested a man who was later charged with statutory rape, after investigating a reckless driving complaint.

Deputies responded to the area of Webb Lane in Drummonds regarding a vehicle engaged in dangerous and senseless driving last week. The vehicle matching the description was parked on a field of the road.

Deputies noticed a lot movement from the occupants inside the vehicle, and noticed one male outside of the car.

A 15-year-old girl was found in the car with the other male. The teenager was later released to her parents.

Autuan Dowell, 23, is one of the adult men. He was detained and charged with statutory rape. Dowell remains on a $10,000 bond awaiting his appearance in Tipton County General Sessions Court on March 28.
