Mom accused of smoking marijuana in car with child | Crime
(WMC-TV) – An Atoka mother was arrested last week after she admitted to smoking marijuana while driving with her infant in the car, according to Tipton County officials.
Stacy Garlock was pulled over by deputies around 11:30 p.m. on June 11 when they spotted her driving, but not wearing her seat belt, officials said Monday.
Deputies said they could smell marijuana as they approached the 24-year-old’s car and spotted the baby fastened into a safety seat.
Garlock allegedly told investigators that she had smoked marijuana in the car moments before she was pulled over. Investigators say she tried, but failed to destroy the drugs when she was pulled over.
“It doesn’t appear that this young mother was making clear decisions as to the welfare of her infant child this evening,” Tipton County Sheriff J.T. ‘Pancho’ Chumley said in a written statement. “She unfortunately exposed her child to an unhealthy, dangerous situation with potential health risks.”
Garlock was charged with child abuse and neglect, tampering with evidence, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The child was placed in a family member’s custody.
