New Green Cabins at David Crockett State Park

 The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation unveiled David Crockett State Park’s seven new, energy efficient Green Cabins on Monday June 6.  The Green Cabins offer new technologies addressing energy efficiency, pollution prevention, children’s health and stormwater management, in addition to easily transferable energy conservation practices.  Upon silver certification as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), the new cabins will mark the first of their kind in a Tennessee State Park.

Recovery center to help with disaster outreach

The Disaster Recovery Center at 4500 Mueller Brass Road in Covington will transition to a U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Disaster Loan Outreach Centers this weekend.


The center will operate from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Saturday, June 5, and re-open as Disaster Loan Outreach Centers Monday morning, June 7th.

Governor requests farm assistance for Tipton County

Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen today requested a Secretarial designation of natural disaster for agriculture for eight additional counties in middle and west Tennessee as a result of the historic rainfall and devastating floods that began April 30. 

 

Tipton County is included in this request.

 

"Some federal farm aid is already available through the Farm Service Agency, but a Secretarial disaster designation will help make more assistance available to farmers who suffered significant losses as a result of the storms and flooding," said Bredesen.

Cash, food aid available for flood victims

Tennessee's State Department of Human Services offices will be open this Saturday in flood-affected counties and officials will be administering short-term food and cash assistance programs for victims.

Low income families that have registered with the Federal Emergency Management Agency could be eligible for one-time cash payments of up to $500.

Cabinet secretaries announce aid for flood victims

U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Shaun Donovan said the government has told all Federal Housing Administration lenders to put a 90-day moratorium on foreclosures for areas hit by recent flooding.

Donovan also said lenders will have flexibility to alter mortgage terms for flood victims who are having trouble making payments.

Clean Up-Fix Up Covington set for Saturday

Its time for Covington residents to "clean up" and "fix up" the city.

This is a time when residents clean up their lawns and clean up debris and trash all along city streets and parks.

The annual "Walk Across Covington" is set for this Saturday, May 8.  The walk begins at 8 AM at the city maintanence building at 410 East Ripley street.
