Win a free year of golf

For the second year in a row, those who love to play golf have an extra incentive to sign up to play in the annual Ed Lannom, Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament, hosted by Dyersburg State Community College. All who register to play and pay by 3:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 22 will have a chance to win a year of free golf at the Dyersburg Municipal Golf Course. Last year Billy George took home the prize.

In addition, DSCC will award the College Cup to the tournament’s winning team. In 2011 the team from Davis Wealth Services, after winning a scorecard playoff, took home this honor. The beautiful crystal trophy has been on display in the offices of the different team members for the past year. The trophy may now be seen at the golf course.

“Our team had an excellent time last year, in addition to supporting such a great local cause,” said Chad Davis, owner of Davis Wealth Services and a member of last year’s winning team. “Our team will be entering the tournament again, and we are hungry for another victory. Regardless of win, lose or draw, we will be the best dressed out there for sure.” Davis jokingly referred to a bet he must now pay in full. On the first tee box of last year’s event, after being teased by his team mates about his Loudmouth Golf pants, Davis told his team that he would buy them all matching pants for the 2012 event if should they win. Davis stated that he’s picked out something “real nice” for his team members to wear in the 2012 tournament.

The tournament will be held at the Dyersburg Municipal Golf Course on Friday, August 24. Lunch is included in the registration cost and food service will begin at 11:30 A.M. Tournament play will begin at 1 P.M. Cash prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place teams in two flights.

Brandon Brewer is serving as 2012 volunteer tournament director. Each year Dyersburg State Community College hosts this fund and friend raiser to support the DSCC’s athletic programs. Members of the DSCC cheerleader, baseball, softball and basketball teams will all be on hand to assist golfers.

Registration forms for the tournament are available at DSCC and at the golf course. For more information please contact DSCC’s Office of Institutional Advancement at 731/286-3349 or e-mail clay@dscc.edu.
