Crash on Highway 51 kills one | News
TIPTON COUNTY, TN- (WMC-TV) - The Tennessee Highway Patrol was back on scene Monday along busy Highway 51 near the Tipton-Lauderdale County line. They were there to reconstruct an accident that killed a 30-year-old man from Ripley on Saturday.
Carolyn Lee spent the day making funeral arrangements for her son, Antonio Norfolk.
"It's not easy losing a child to a driver that's coming up the wrong side of a bypass," said Lee.
Her son was killed in a head-on collision early Saturday morning in front of The Farm club, a bar on the on the Tipton-Lauderdale county line.
"He was already on the bypass and somebody was coming down the wrong side of the bypass and been drinking and took my son's life," Lee said.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol says alcohol was a factor in the crash.
Lee is worried that drivers along the busy stretch of road are going too fast and not watching the traffic coming in and out of the parking lot.
There is a 60 mile per hour speed limit in front of the club, but just feet up the highway, the speed changes to 65.
"It should be 55 because it's a club there," Lee continued.
This is the first deadly accident along this stretch of Highway 51 this year, but there have been four injury accidents reported since January.
Carolyn Lee wants something done about the speed limit before someone else is killed.
Funeral services for Antonio Norfolk will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Currie Funeral Home in Henning.
