(WMC-TV) – A grand jury has ruled that a Tipton County deputy won’t be charged for the deadly shooting of a suicidal man last month.
Deputy Justin Browder responded to a 911 call concerning a suicidal, armed man at a home in the 3300 block of Marshall Road in Munford.
Richard Rykiel walked out of the house armed with a large butcher knife, according to investigators, and walked towards Browder.
The TBI investigation revealed that Browder repeatedly ordered Rykile to stop and drop the knife. However, he refused.
Browder fired two shots, killing the 51-year-old.
The TBI and the district attorney’s office both agreed that the shooting was justified and that Browder shouldn’t face any charges.
The grand jury agreed with investigators Monday and ruled that Browder responded appropriately.
