Local college gears up for FAFSA fever

For the third year, Dyersburg State Community College will present its FAFSA Fever campaign.

If 1,000 DSCC students (including DSCC’s Dual Enrollment students) file their Federal Application for Free Student Aid (FAFSA) by January 31, the college will award $100 to 10 DSCC students through a random drawing of those who have filed.

Winners will be announced at the FAFSA Fever celebration on Sat., Feb.

Register now for Dixie Youth baseball

Registration for Munford's 2011 Dixie Youth Baseball League is now taking place through Friday, January 21st.

The league fee for youth ages 5-14 is $85, which includes their uniform.

Games are scheduled Monday through Thursday nights, with games and practices scheduled in the award-winning Centennial Park.

Computer classes offered at Munford Parks and Rec

Computer classes offered at Munford Parks and Rec

Munford Parks and Recreation will be offering computer classes in January.

The following classes will be offered on the following dates:

Facebook Class: Jan 3, 5, 10, 12, 17, 19, 24, 26, 31 at 12:30 p.m.

Internet/Basic Computer Class: Jan 3, 5, 10, 12, 17, 19, 24, 26, 31 at 2:30 p.m.

Microsoft Word Class: Jan 4, 6, 11, 13, 18, 20, 25, 27 at 12:30 p.m.

Microsoft Word (Evening) Class: Jan 4, 6, (Saturday, January 15TH from 9 a.m. to noon) 18, 20, 25, 27 at 5:30 p.m.

The cost for each course is $35.00.

Classes will be held at 63 College Street.

Ghoulish fun for inner city kids

As they boarded the bus to take them to the FirstWorks After School Program, the children were greeted by a "cowboy" bus driver and "gypsy" bus monitor.

Upon arrival at Highland Heights United Methodist Church, where the program meets twice a week for dinner and tutoring, Executive Director Rev. Birgitte T. French, "Pastor Bee," and a life-size green leprechaun welcomed the kids into the orange and black, Halloween-themed dining hall.

Plan now, pay less later seminar at Dyersburg State

Barry Blackburn of the Blackburn Law Firm in Olive Branch, Mississippi will be leading the seminar. Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, Blackburn received a B.S.B.A. in Finance from Auburn University and an M.B.A.

Munford library is now wireless! In addition to the computer library improvements, additional story times have been added. Bring your pre-schooler (Pre-K) in for story time every Wednesday from 11:00 to 11:30 am and older children (K-3) every Friday from 4:00 to 4:30 p.m. The Munford library is located at 1476 Munford Avenue. Flu Shots

Flu shots are being offered on Tuesday, October 12th from 10 am – 4 pm at the Munford Recreation Center located at 63 College Street. The cost is $29.99 and Medicare will be accepted. For more information, please call 837-5965.

City-wide yard sale in City Park on College Street, Saturday, October 2nd . Call Munford Parks & Recreation at 837-5965 to reserve your place by September 30th. Booths measure 10 x 10’ and cost $10/booth or $15 w/ electricity. Tables are not provided. Vendors may set up at 6:00 am. The public is invited from 7:00 am to noon.
