Tipton County Emergency Communications will be holding a User group meeting May 14th, 2013 at 9:00a.m. located at Covington Municipal Building located at 213 S. Main St, Covington, TN. directly across from the Covington Post Office.  Tipton County Emergency Communications and Southwest Electric will be announcing the partnership to the users that the argeements have been signed and the system is a go. Further information can be obtained at the meeting.  The meeting will be held by the Tipton County E9-1-1 Chairman Jim Harger.

DSCC registration underway

Registration for Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) Summer and Fall classes has begun.  Those wishing to register may do so at www.dscc.edu by clicking on the red “Apply Now” button.  The site also provides information on registration requirements, courses available, and hot career programs such as Associate of Applied Science in Nursing, EMT-Paramedic, Justice Services, Health Information Technology, Computer Information Technology and the LPN-RN Fast Track Nursing program.  Also available are popular transfer programs such as the Associate of Science in Teaching K-6, Business Administration, Criminal Justice and Pre-Health Professions.  DSCC offers programs at three convenient locations in West Tennessee.  For more information on registration, contact a One-Stop Center at the Dyersburg campus at (731) 286-3350, the Gibson County Center in Trenton at (731) 855-1419, or the Jimmy Naifeh Center at Tipton County at (901) 475-3100.

Former Munford Mayor Chorley dies

Former Munford, TN mayor John O. Chorley, Sr., age 88, passed away April 27, 2013 at his Munford home. The Chorley family will receive friends Wednesday, May 1, from 3 p.m. until the memorial service at 4 p.m. at the Munford Chapel. Mr. Chorley was an Army Air Corps veteran of WWII, former mayor of Munford, former Munford High School principal, and longtime coach and a lifetime educator. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Love Chorley, and sister, “Dimp” Broom; brother, Harold Chorley.

DSCC Gibson County campus holds scholarship luncheon

Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) Gibson County Center recently hosted its annual Donor Scholarship Luncheon for recipients and their respective donors on Thursday, April 11.  The luncheon was sponsored by Farmers & Merchants Bank of Rutherford and Citizens, City and County Bank of Trenton. Ronika Dawson of Milan, and Samantha Doaks and Heather Abdalkhaliq, both of Trenton, were the scholarship recipients who spoke at the luncheon.

DSCC Baseball team ranked

Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) Men’s Baseball team has cracked the poll in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I rankings.  Ranked at 22nd with a respectable 29-14 record so far, the DSCC Eagles are currently in second place overall in the Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA), trailing first place Walters State Community College only by half of a game heading into the last weekend of the TCCAA regular season.

Covington to transfer houses to Habitat for Humanity

The City of Covington has some good news and wants to share it.

 

The City of Covington will transfer four (4) properties to Habitat for Humanity.  The City was able to acquire these properties and tear down the houses through a Neighborhood Stabilization Program grant.   

The event will take place Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at 9:00 am at Covington City Hall, 200 West Washington Ave., Covington, TN
