Do something fun this Saturday, September 15, and join hundreds of Mid-Southerners at the visitor's center at Shelby Farms for the Walk To End Alzheimer's.

The walk begins at 9 a.m.

The Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.

Held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide, this inspiring event calls on participants of all ages and abilities to reclaim the future for millions.

Together, we can end Alzheimer’s disease, the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death.

Tri-County Summit wins SWTDD 'Regional Collaboration' Award

More than 220 people gathered at the Doubletree Hotel in Jackson on August 30 for the Southwest Tennessee Development District’s Annual Board of Directors Meeting and its first ever awards program to recognize individuals and organizations who work cooperatively with SWTDD’s Area Agency on Aging & Disabilities (AAAD) and its Economic & Community Development (ECD) divisions. Winners were selected by way of nominations submitted from throughout the region.

Dr. Jamie Frakes of Dyersburg State Community College was presented with SWTDD’s “Regional Collaboration Award” for DSCC’s role in organizing and hosting the Tri-County College Summit.

Tipton County deputies bust meth lab inside Munford house

On August 22, the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office narcotic investigators were conducting an investigation regarding the purchasing of pseudoephedrine tablets by Leonard Hunter. Investigators arrived at Hunter’s residence located at 8344 Munford-Gilt Edge Road in Burlison and as they approached the residence could smell a strong chemical odor associated with the manufacturing of methamphetamine (meth) coming from an open window.

TENNESSEE DISTRICT ATTORNEYS ALERT RESIDENTS OF ‘NO REFUSAL’ DURING LABOR DAY HOLIDAY

District Attorney D. Michael Dunavant announces the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security and Tennessee Highway Patrol’s second “No Refusal” campaign.

The “No Refusal” enforcement effort, beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 31, 2012 and concluding at midnight on Monday, September 3, 2012, will also coincide with the Labor Day holiday weekend. “No Refusal” is the latest enforcement strategy aimed at deterring impaired driving and reducing fatal crashes on Tennessee roadways. The new law, passed this year by the General Assembly, allows law enforcement officials to seek search warrants for blood samples in cases involving suspected impaired drivers.

Fundraiser to be held for injured soldier

Join the Tipton County Veterans Council Saturday morning August 25 at Restoration Church  in Munford as they work to raise funds for wounded marine LCPL Christian "CB" Brown.

The event will take place from 7-10 a.m. Restoration Church is located at 60 E. Main Street, near Naifeh's in Munford.

Drug Task force agents and prosecutors attend training

Members of the 25th Judicial District Attorney's Office and the 25th Judicial District Drug Task Force attended training in Nashville this week, where former 25th DAG and Tennessee Attorney General Paul G. Summers was a keynote speaker. Prosecutors and Agents participated in intensive training in new trends and techniques in successful drug investigations and prosecution, and were also instructed on best practices and administrative policies and procedures in operating and administering a Drug Task Force operation.

Thieves break into Tipton County Landfill

Thieves break into Tipton County Landfill

On July 20th 2012 at about 1:30 am, thieves jumped the fence at the Tipton County Landlfill located at 9051 Highway 51S in Brighton and entered the recycling building.

The thieves made away with 45 pounds of copper, approximately 14 vehicle batteries, an air conditioner unit and a toolbox containing several hand tools.

The Tipton County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division and the Brighton Police Department conducted the investigation and obtained surveillance video of the property which captured the thieves in the act. Detectives were conducting a similar theft investigation at the Landfill which occurred in April, which had resulted in the surveillance cameras being installed at the property.
