Art exhibit celebrates Tipton County Beautiful Month

TO CELEBRATE TIPTON COUNTY BEAUTIFUL MONTH, THE TIPTON ART LEAGUE IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE TIPTON COUNTY BEAUTIFUL BOARD IS EXHIBITING BEAUTIFUL PAINTINGS BY LOCAL ARTISTS. A RECEPTION WILL BE THURSDAY, APRIL 26, FROM 6:30 TO 8:00 PM AT DYERSBURG STATE COMMUNITY COLLEGE, JIMMY NAIFEH CENTER, 3149 HWY 51 S., COVINGTON.

Tiger Sculpture Coming to the U of M

Construction is underway at the University of Memphis.

“BEE UNIQUE…IMAGINE, BELIEVE & ACHIEVE”: DSCC hosts 35th Annual Administrative Professionals’ Semina

“Bee Unique…Imagine, Believe and Achieve” is the theme for the annual Dyersburg State Community College Administrative Professionals’ Seminar.

This year’s seminar will be held on Thursday, April 12, in the multi-purpose room at the First Christian Church in Dyersburg from 8:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

The seminar will consist of three sessions, with a luncheon after the second session. James Dusenberry, community president of Regions Bank of West Tennessee, will be the first speaker. His topic is “Personal Growth and Development.”

He will tell the audience how to “imagine” growing and developing on a personal level each and every day. Dusenberry will inspire each in attendance to become the person he or she wants to be.

“If You Would Only Believe” is the topic of the second session.

It will be presented by Tiffany Hayes, an author and inspirational writer. Hayes has overcome large obstacles in her life, and “believes” there is always hope.

DSCC Covington hosts annual donor/scholar luncheon

 Friday, March 23 will be full of festivities at the DSCC Jimmy Naifeh Center at Tipton County.

The program of the Annual Donor Scholar luncheon, held to honor the generosity of those who provide scholarships to Dyersburg State Community College, will include the recognition of the 15th anniversary of the founding of the DSCC Jimmy Naifeh Center and the presentation of the Tennessee Board of Regents Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Philanthropy to the Assisi Foundation of Memphis, Inc.

TBR Chancellor John Morgan will make the presentation to Assisi representatives.

The Assisi Foundation was instrumental in establishing the Nursing and Allied Health program at the DSCC Jimmy Naifeh Center.

The Chancellor’s Award is given annually in recognition of its recipient's generous giving of resources to a Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) institution.

The luncheon will begin at Noon in the Naifeh Building.

University of Memphis "Canstruction"

University of Memphis "Canstruction"

Ten local high schools will be participating in a fundraising event for the Mid-South Food Bank. The University of Memphis College of Engineering Administration Building will hold the event in their second story lobby. It is sponsored by the West Tennessee Branch American Society of Civil Engineers Younger Members Group.

Each high school will have three hours to construct a sculpture made entirely out of full cans. Every school will have a professional civil engineer as well as a civil engineering student to offer advice and answer questions throughout the "Canstruction."

Bartlett, Collierville, East, Harding Academy, Kingsbury, Ridgeway, St. Bennedict at Auburndale, St. Agnes Academy, St. MAry's and Whitestation are among the participating high schools.

This year's event will mark the sixth year of the competition.

TN Small Business Development Center closed week of March 19th

The office of the TN Small Business Development Center of Dyersburg State Community College will be closed March 19-23 due to Director Maleia Evans and Dr. James Frakes representing the entire TN SBDC network, in Washington DC, for meetings with all TN Legislators.

The legislative meetings have been scheduled by the TSBDC in conjunction with the 2012 Annual ASBDC Spring Conference. Director Evans and Dr. Frakes will also be attending a hearing of The US House Committee on Small Business, at which an SBDC staff member has been asked to testify on the important role Small Business Development Centers play in training, counseling and education which leads to jobs creation.
