Covington church in need of food to stock food pantry shelves

Covington church in need of food to stock food pantry shelves

For the first time since First United Methodist Church Covington began the Bread of Life food ministry 2-1/2 years ago, the need could not be met from the Mid-South Food Bank.

The church placed an order for food at the Mid-South Food Bank this week, but could not get any of the food items on their list.

There is a combination of issues that may have caused this:

• Food stamp transition this month (the date persons receive their stamps has been changed and some folks have a gap in that transition) – all pantries are ordering more to offset this.

• Shelby county did not receive commodity foods from the state this month – not sure why, but that is creating huge demand on Shelby county pantries and their orders increased.

This order for food was for the food pantry at FUMC on October 20.
