Off-Leash areas around Shelby County

Off-Leash areas around Shelby County

Now that the weather is warmer, local pet lovers want somewhere to run around with their pups. If you don't want to stay in your own backyard, go to one of the off-leash dog parks in the area.

There are several locations throughout the Mid-South where dogs can enjoy the freedom of being off-leash and owners don't have to fear their furry friends running out into the street.

Safe, fenced-in areas are available to the public, and the only necessity for most is that the dog be up-to-date on vaccinations.

1. Shelby Farms Dog Park: The most well-known and largest in the area. The park has recently finished updates to the area which includes water, a wooded area and large fields. There is a separate entrance for the dog area, located off of Trinity Road at Gate 12.

Fans get a treat as an intra-league contest follows the opener.

The first bout starts at 6:00 p.m.  For ticket info & more, check out the Memphis Roller Derby Website

Winning is important...but at what cost?

Living in Tennessee, we have seen first-hand how the disregard of NCAA compliance rules has had devastating effects on area colleges and their athletic programs.

On Saturday, February 18 Jim Booz, Dyersburg State Community College Alumnus and Senior Associate Athletic Director for Compliance at the University of Georgia, will speak candidly about compliance issues at a dinner before the Homecoming basketball games.

This event is open to the public.

Those who play sports, who coach sports or are fans of sports, will want to attend.  The cost to attend is $15 per person and reservations must be made by Tuesday, February 14.

Those who played on any DSCC sports team or were on a DSCC cheerleading squad, are invited to come to a special reception before the dinner at 4:30 p.m.  All former DSCC coaches are also invited to attend.

Later that evening, Dyersburg State will play Motlow State Community College.  Tip t
