Become a better driver in the distracted driver simulator

What can happen when you text and drive or drink and drive?

You can find out first hand without risk to life and limb in the PEERS Awareness Driving Simulator.

The simulator will be at the Learning Resource Center on the Dyersburg campus of Dyersburg State Community College on Thursday, March 1 and is open to the public.

The simulator is being sponsored by the DSCC Counseling Office and the DSCC Student Government Association to help drivers learn the potentially deadly risks of being distracted while driving.

In 2008, nearly 6,000 people lost their lives nationwide in crashes involving a distracted driver, and more than a half million people injured, according to traffic data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NTHSA).

A 2008 NTHSA study indicated at any given moment during the daylight hours, more than 800,000 vehicles are being driven by someone using a hand-held cell phone.
